I have some videos that are in DivX format, but now that I have a DVD-Writer, I'd like to burn them to DVD+R/RW media. I've converted one of them to VCD and burned onto DVD+RW and it played, so I know my player recognizes DVD+RW meida. How do I convert from DivX to DVD, which I believe is MPEG2, right? I tried using the DVD(NTSC) template in TMPGEnc but got no audio. At the same time that I convert from DivX to DVD (MPEG2), I'd like to resize the MPEG2 output so that it fits on one DVD+RW disk. Any ideas? Come on, don't tell me once you go DivX, you can never go back... haha.

That's what I was using... The only thing is that I just noticed that it says you must have the MPEG2 Codec installed. How do I check that? I believe I do, I have run into anything I can't play in Windows Media Player. If I don't have the MPEG2, where can I get it. The MPEG2 Codec link on http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgencdvd.htm is broken.

Also, I was thinking of trying Toolame of the audio encoder for TMPGEnc.. but every link I find for that is either broken or takes me to a page where I can download the source code... I can't find anyplace to download the compiled "toolame.exe".

  3. So you have converted your Divx to Mpeg2 DVD compliant. In order for it to play on a standalone player it must next be authored. You cant simply burn the Mpeg2 to the DVD+rw. Your drive should have come with some authoring software, if so what was it. I use Sonic MyDvd and Dvdit PE for authoring to DVD-r. They are easy to use but not very powerful. Also they can be VERY fussy about the Mpeg2 file settings.

No, read my original message... I have not been able to successfully create the "Mpeg2 DVD compliant" as you call it. When I try to convert to MPEG2 using TMPGEnc's DVD(NTSC) template, I get NO AUDIO in the output file... Having an audio issue with TMPGEnc! You know anything about that??

  5. Load the .avi file in virtualdub. On the audio menu select compression, PCM(NONE). Set to full processing mode. From the file menu select sav .wav file and you will get a large uncompressed PCM audio stream. Load this into Tmpgenc as the audio and re-encode. As this is a long process I suggest you try it with a short clip from your Divx first. Virtualdub can be used to generate this using the select source range option.

Let me know how you get on

I think I got it... I used VirtualDub to extract the audio, then used the resulting wav file along with the DIVX AVI to ouput MPEG2 using TMPGEnc's DVD(NTSC) template.. I tried a sample and it seems to have worked. I tried this once before and got really poor, choppy audio... but I think that I had extracted the audio to the wrong bitrate that time. I think I used 44100 and should have been using 48000. Just to confirm, what bitrate should I be using when extracting audio for SVCD or DVD MPEG2?

  8. Yes, 48Khz is the correct audio rate for the DVD standard. Tmpgenc will do the conversion according to the template, but it doesnt do a particularly good job of it, vdub is much better. Would also suggest letting Tmpgenc produce the video only. Let your DVD authoring software multiplex them together.

Thanks! TMPGEnc wouldn't convert the audio directly from the AVI... that's where I started.. I used the same DIVX AVI as both video and audio source.. didn't work, which is why I went to VirtualDub.

Speaking of VirtualDub, do you know anything about this: http://forum.vcdhelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=87086&sid=1ce821562a24dd1537b8afc9c3aa3b41

  10. Sorry, no. Can't help with that one. Does tha avi play correctly with audio in WMP. You may need an appropriate codec installed or something.

Yeah, everything palys fine in WMP. I was able to convert the AVI to one with uncompressed audio using AVI Audio Decompressor Ver 1.4. Then I could extract the audio with VirtualDub.
