I would say my main editing platform is Adobe but I also use DGIndex. VirtualDub, Avisynth and various mux/demux utilities.

For quick and easy, including subtitles and special effects, I use my own Program I compiled that calls FFMpeg, AVISynth, Media Player, PotPlayer, FFPlay, Yamdi, DGIndex, exiftool, MediaInfo, and TSRemux as they are Needed.

For more elaborate work, VirtualDub, AVISynth, FFMpeg and Video Edit

The poll looks kinda vague and limited. One choice is "Sony". Sony makes several products. So does Adobe. "Edit" isn't defined, a lot of folks think authoring a DVD or BD is "editing". By "software" do you mean mostly all-in-one NLE's for everything from import to authoring?

    For cleanup, denoising: Avisynth, VirtualDub.
Video levels and Color correction: Avisynth, VirtualDub, Adobe After Effects Color Finesse plugin.
Effects, compositing, layering, transitions, timeline: After Effects
Assembly, cut/join: TMPGenc Smart Renderer, TMPGenc Mastering Works for lossless input, VideoReDo
Encoding: TMPGEnc Mastering Works, TMPGEnc Plus 2.5, HCEnc, TX264
Authoring: TMPGenc Authoring Works (DVD, BD, AVCHD), DVDAuthorgui

If the poll refers to one-stop-shopping NLE's, the closest thing thing I have would be After Effects. But I don't use it for encoding.

How about a poll that targets something more specific?

Sony Vegas Pro 12, HitFilm Ultimate 2, Microsoft Digital Image Pro 9, CorelDraw 4, Aurora 3D Animation Maker, Easy GIF Animator, HyperSnap Screen Still Capture, HyperCam Video Screen Capture, AviDemux.

And I have to give a shoutout to the little software that shook the world, AutoGK. And a shoutout to Manono, a member here, who was a part of the AutoGK project.

Strange that Apple FCP/FCS/FCX is not listed, considering it is used by so many...

FCP Aficionados don't mix it up with Windows users. They can't pull the baloney over our heads.

    It depends.

For actual editing -- as in, actually taking multiple video and/or audio tracks and assembling them into a project -- my platform of choice is still ULead Media Studio Pro. Yes, it's an older package, but it's reliable, does pretty much everything I need it to do, and I'm used to it.

For video processing, on the other hand -- transcoding clips from old and odd formats into something edit-able, converting PAL to NTSC, applying video filters, etc. -- my go-to tools are usually combinations of AVIsynth and/or VirtualDub tools, as needed.

For most production use, I go with Vegas Pro. These days, about 95 % of all editing I do with Aviutl. It can literally do it all and is totally free.

There are very few things you can't do with free / open source s/w, though it may not be quite as easy as doing it with commercial s/w like Vegas Pro.....
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........
