  1. Hi all, need a litte help here.

    Just built a new computer.

    ABIT KR7A-133 Raid
    Athlon 1900 XP
    Win2K
    1Gb PC2100 Mem
40gb ATA133 Primary HardDrive 7200rpm on the Higpoint Raid Controller
    Pioneer DVD-116 -DVD Rom Drive
    ATI Radeon 8500DV
    SB Live!
And an assortment of other stuff..

Ok heres the problem. Using Smartripper to yank the video off the DVD, on playback, before any encoding has taken place, just playing the .vob files, the video has very quick pauses in it every 1/2 to 1 seconds. The audio doesnt seem to be affected. Looking at the hard drive access light, it flashes almost in the same time frame, 1/2 -1 second writes. I'm at a loss here. The hard drive is on the High point 133 raid controller .

Is it the DVD Rom Drive? the Hard drive? the controller? Any help here would be most welcomed.

    ---- Update ----

Just tried playing the VOB files on PowerDVD.. No chops, skips, or pauses. But, the encoded files, burned to cd, and played still do. They also pause like I said, using ATI's file player. So, am I doing something wrong. I'm using Smartripper>DVD2AVI>TMPGEnc for the prossesing.

    Thanks Again

  2. same problems when playing on winDVD/powerDVD? sometimes the video pauses when playing the vobs directly (at least happens to me...but the resulting rip is fine)

the pauses could be due to the ati player..try playing the burned rip on winDVD/powerDVD
