  1. Ok, having similar problem like the one I had with The Firm. Independence Day 5 star collection contains only anamorphic widescreen, no full screen on disc one. I put it in my dvd player and it plays like it should, anamorphic widescreen. So I try to rip it with ripit4me and dvd shrink and it is showing up as 4:3 letterbox. Also when I play the dvd on the computer in media player it looks the same, it looks squished like someone pinched the frame. It doesn't make any sense, the disc is pristine and it is mastered as anamorphic widescreen, plays fine on set top dvd player. Is there something with dvd drive on the computer that is causing this? What can I do?
I have been ripping my collection, about 300 titles so far. This title and The Firm have done this.

Any suggestions, this is really bugging me.

    Thanks

have you tried using DVDFAB DECRYPTER to rip? Then use DVDSHRINK.

  3. Yeah this didn't work. I opened the dvd in fab decrypter and it showed the titles all listed as 16:9, even the preview window showed 16:9 picture, not letterboxed. Well same result as before, I even opened the first ripped vob into video redo and its 4:3. I don't for the life of me understand this. I tried messing with infoedit and change the info files but not too sure how to use that program.

Has no one come across something like this before?

  4. Just to add to this, using windows media player 11 I clicked on the first vob from the dvdfab decrypter rip and it played widescreen. I renamed the extension to mpg and it played 4:3 letterboxed.

In case any one is wondering, I am converting my dvd's to main movie mpeg2 with no quality loss. So I use ripit4me and then vob2mpeg. I do this for my xbox360 extender so that's why the mpeg2 conversion.
