  1. Hey guys, I'm new here and I really need help. I have a video file that I desperately need to upload to my Youtube channel. I need to do this because it has to be preserved. As far as I know, it's the only copy of this video that exists on Earth.

It's a streamed video from Twitch. I used one of these two websites (Nightdev or Twitchtools, I can't remember) to download the video. After that, I tried to upload the video to Youtube to preserve it, but it won't upload. I tried it five times, and every time there was an error with processing. The format of the video says VLC media file (.mp4) so it's technically an mp4 file, but also directly associated with VLC, which I've never seen before.

Anyway, I've tried to convert it to some other file type, but every downloaded and online converter has "failed to convert" or "not recognized a proper file" or some such thing. I finally realized that VLC player itself could convert files, but every time I've done so it works, and can be uploaded to Youtube, but has no sound. I'm just at my wit's end and desperate. Please, please help me. I have this seemingly cursed video file that can only be viewed from my laptop (that could randomly die at any point) and I need to save it permanently. I can't let this video go, it's literally the only copy in existence and I need it to be saved. Please help me.

Help you what? I was expecting a link to the file somewhere. And as roma_turok says, if it's so precious also upload it to a cloud drive or MediaFire or some other third party file sharing site.

I can also recommend MediaFire. Or rent some real webspace.

Windows determines what program is used to open a file based on the filename extension. I suspect your file is an MP4 file but its extension is not .MP4. Try renaming it to whatever.MP4.

Most players determine the container by looking at the contents of the file, not the extension. I don't know if Youtube does the same.

And change Explorer so that it shows all extensions. The default is to hide extensions for known file types. Being able to see the extension of all files is critical in Windows.
