No names mentioned ('tis easy to guess who)

But a certain 'member' was banned from the forum some hours ago. Yet, according to the forum that same member is online and viewing the forum.

Now, maybe, that is simply a comment that the member is banned but has not logged out or can he still log in but not post ?

    Just curious.

Interesting that someone would still appear to be logged in after being banned.

This may not be the end. The individual in question has re-joined other forums using a new name, although nobody was fooled for long.

this is the way it works with some forum software, let's assume someone is logged in and does something that earns him/her a suspension or ban, often times it can't be enforced until that person ends his browsing session.

This is too bad. I was gonna ask gamey, after he digests the info from the replies (assuming he gets that far), exactly what he plans to do, now that he gets it all, from fungus to CDr dye layer, and everything in between and combinations thereof. Can't know now eh
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i".

So all you did is close the thread but the user put the word banned under his user name. Nice joke playing along Baldrick

yes i do, i got suspended from the old extremetech forums years ago for i don't remember what and they couldn't enforce it because i never logged out and never closed my browser; i spent about a month breaking the mod's balls, taunting him for not being able to suspend me.

as for the doom9 ban you're referring to, those *******s tried to ban my ip so that i can't even view the forum but you know what the funny thing is? opera's "accelerator" technology bypasses their attempts to ban my ip (read up on opera if you want to know why this is).

edit: has a word filter been implemented in this forum all of a sudden? this is the first time i have seen any word censored here.

Actually, I'd like to offer my IP to them so that they CAN ban me from viewing - please. This avoids accidental landing on their site.

It's been almost 7 years since I've posted there. I have no use for them.

Probably you can tell AdBlock Plus to forbid *.doom9.*/*, and
    https://leffster.se/* + https://nic.dnsalias.com/* + https://www.koepi.info/* as well

SURELY you can do the above with the non-Webkit builds of Opera

It's been almost 7 years since I've posted there. I have no use for them.

LOL at El Huggunte "the stalker"

You can use proxies to get around IP bans, or use a friend's computer, or use public access like a library or university computer, or wifi like some coffee shops

Come on, PuzZLeR didn't reply to a private message that I sent him some years ago,

therefore he must be punished somehow

    Yeah.

And he's complaining that the banning was unfair because he didn't break any rules, such as insults, etc. Well, maybe there should be one for forum pollution. But "trolling" covers it well enough. What useless threads, and shame on those who fed the troll! I have to admit though, some of the members' responses were funny.

I can't tell you how much respect you have gained in my eyes by posting this. Anybody who runs afoul of Doom9 to the point that they would try to do that must be OK in my book. You're all right, deadrats.

i also got banned from DS' Doom10 variant, via IP ban.

i don't know why either, all i did was break jason's, aka dark shakari, aka giant douche, balls none stop for all the bullshit he spoke in support of his half assed encoder and in denouncement of any competing solutions.

it didn't help that when lord mulder showed up to defend him i showed him the error of his ways.

the real irony is that what finally caused the permanent ban (i was banned for a month a couple of times) was when i did an anti open source diatribe and engaged in a pretty good debate with a number of the forum mods. interestingly it was neuron2 who banned me (i can't really prove it, but i'm sure it's that jerkoff based on his personal messages) yet this prick is best known for his closed source gpu powered software.

seriously, 2nd lamest forum on the net, only DS' doom10 sucks more ass.

that can't be right, if you go to any torrent site, for instance the world's most famous pirate site, google adsense serves up loads of ads advertising chicks with giant melons or hardcore porn sites or some sausage enhancer, so you're telling me google has no problem serving up an ad that shows some 15 inch black **** but the "F" word has to be censored or google will complain?

    that can't be right.

    No.

The usergroup is changed to the banned (no privilege) group, and the PHP no longer processes requests. Being logged in (cookie) is separate from the ability to post/etc.

The user being banned isn't the same as the IP, no.
