  1. After some searching and endless tinkering with mkvmerge, mkvinfo & tsMuxer I cannot seem to get certain mkv files to work on my TV.

I've tried changing the profile to 4.1 or lower, header compression to none and when needed I ticked the AAC is SBR/HE-ACC/AAC+. I've checked the manual for my TV serveral times and according to it, it should definitely play it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Edit: My TV model is Samsung LCD Series 5 LE4OC530

I changed your thread title so it better describes your problem.

Have you tried RECONVERT? It might be required. Or try remux to a mp4 or mts with https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/all-in-one-mkv-to-mp4-avchd-ts

  3. The only reason I don't want to convert is so I don't loose any quality. Is there certain setting on that programme I can use so this would not happen?

Remuxing to mp4 or mts does not reconvert. So try those tools first.

TVs at present are not "play everything" devices so you have 2 choices here. You can either spend the next few years converting a lot of videos into something your TV accepts or you can buy a media streamer like a Western Digital or similar model and play the files as they are and get on with your life.

I have a Samsung HDTV with media player built in and it doesn't play MKV files but all you need to do is remux the MKV to .TS with TSMuxer and it'll play them just fine, assuming the codecs inside the MKV are supported.

That's weird. My brother has a Samsung TV and it has no problems playing MKV. My Samsung is an older model and will only play photos and mp3s from a USB drive. No Video at all. I do have an older WDTV though.

  8. Thanks for all your help so far. None of the suggested programmes seem to work.

I should of made it clearer before but its only SOME MKV files that will not work. I just need to know how to change its contents from this~

Maybe its something to do with the WxH and that only 1280x720 and below will play? Because it seems any time its a file with 1920x1080 it won't play. If so, what could I use to change it? I tried changing it in MKVmerge after demuxing but when I check the WXH afterwards its just the same as it was before. I've got to be doing something wrong here...

    Hello,

Bought today a Samsung TV model UA40EH5000M
I have 4 .mkv files on a usb but the TV will only play 1 of them
The other 3 only sound is working and instead of the picture it's like random colors ....
I will attach 4 pictures of the .mkv files (working and then not-working 1-3)
Maybe someone can figure out what I need to do in order for it to work
    Many thanks in advance

wwc4d - In general, we'd prefer that you leave old threads alone and just start a new one, but this isn't the worst grave robbing I've seen around here as at least your problem is on topic.

That's the Mac version of MediaInfo isn't it? There's nothing useful in what you've provided. You'll need to run it under Windows unfortunately and post those results for us to have any chance of finding out what's wrong/different with the files that don't work. Nothing in what you posted above is useful.

Best guess - the files that don't play have header stripping and the one that plays doesn't, but we can't tell from the Mac version. The Windows version of MediaInfo could confirm that.

wwc4d: You might try VideoSpec or iMediaHUD instead of the plain MediaInfo. I think they provide better information, but that's just me.

The OS X version of MediaInfo should theoretically provide the same amount of information as the Windows version, but are you sure you're using the most recent version, and have it in text/tree mode?

so what you are saying is that I have to take my .mkv file that is not working and somehow get rid of the CABAC and also lower the ReFrames?

if yes, can anyone guide me how I do it?
I would prefer if possible on my mac but if not I have windows as well on my laptop

    thx for any help

  18. CABAC is ok! Just make sure you do not exceed Level 4.0 limits!
I have 32” EH5000 and everything works like a charm!

great I have the 40" EH5000M but the question is now what to do with the .mkv file
I didn't make the .mkv file, I downloaded it so how do I change it to not exceed 4.0 without losing the great quality I have?

    Thx again

Maybe the site that you downloaded the movies from can tell you how to fix them. We can't talk about or give help in fixing pirated movies.

  23. Much easier to get a media player that plays most files for $90 or so, than to re-convert every file you download. BTW, not all movies downloaded are "pirated", as some film makers give their movies away for free, and endorse them to be copied, downloaded or torrented.
