Now is it just me or does it say that this audio format IS supported in the AVI container on this page? If it is supported then why can I not get sound with it??? I do have the correct video codec do I not? If it is the wrong video codec please point me to the right one... thanks!

Ac3 should be just fine on the 360.
Remux to an mp4 file and try again. Winff for starters, avidemux will do it also. Just choose "copy video, copy audio" and select mp4 as the container.

And just to check you do get surround sound normally out of the 360 right? Nothing has changed in your hookup?

No-one can tell you why not unless you are more specific about your setup .... 5.1 over hdmi is fine (my setup)

  7. It isn't the setup at all... It is the fact it should decode it and convert it to stereo but it doesn't even play sound... Whatever I am just going to downmix using eac3to stereo audio instead...
