Hi all,
Still new and learning, can i ask, at what point in a dvd rip do the "black bars" at bottom and top of the file appear? Does is depend on the original DVD? I use DVDfab to rip and then Handbrake to encode, is this something i can adjust? If i already have an encoded file with it can i change this?
Sorry for all the questions, im finding a step learning curve!
Thanks for any advice.

It depends on the video source, see http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspect_ratio_(image)
If the video is wider than your display you will get black bars. You can crop/zoom the video so it fits but you will of course lose some video then. -
DVDs made from video tape sources often have a few black (or noisy) lines at the bottom of the frame. It's in the nature of video tape.

Sometimes those bars show the PRESENCE of filler, sometimes they are just the ABSENCE of video.
