  1. Hi,

I have two problems concerning interlaced mp4 video.

    Problem 1:
Is there a chance to convert interlaced mpeg2 video to mp4 interlaced output (no de-interlacing at all)? I didn't find this option in Handbrake, the output is always progressive. Should I use other software?

    Problem 2:
I have some mp4 files, that are interlaced, but my TV and my PC think, they are progressive (strong comb-effects). Is it possible to change the wrong file headers?

    Thanks for your help!

    Miepel

PS: Please excuse my poor English.

  2. I think your problem 2 gives the answer to your problem 1. Many (Most? All?) players won't deinterlace x264 video encoded as interlaced. Either deinterlace it or bob it before/while encoding.

Edit: After reading jagabo's reply and link, it's not 'All' players won't deinterlace it. Maybe just 'Many'?

  3. Most players I've used will detinterlace h.264 if it is encoded and flagged as interlaced. I think he meant the frames are interlaced but they were encoded (and flagged) as progressive. I don't know if there are any tools that would let you change the flag. In any case, it wouldn't really work right -- the chroma channels will be screwed up.

  4. screw up the interlacing with incorrect filtering.
Many (Most? All?) players won't deinterlace x264 video encoded as interlaced.
i hv seen many H264/AVC1 videos screwed up with incorrect filtering and containing improper de-interlacing artifacts while scene change.
