Hey, my friends and I were recording a 'Let's play' of a videogame. We got carried away, and ended up recording a 4 GB mp4. The file appears to have an intact header and end, or at least it is similar to other videos he has recorded. However, it seems the file is too large for computer consumption, as even my hex editor couldn't open the entire thing. Is there a way to cut the video down to useable portions? We don't want to have to rerecord the video if we don't have to.

Here are the results:
General
Complete name : E:\Let's play\00009.mp4
Format : MPEG-4
Format profile : Base Media
Codec ID : isom
File size : 4.00 GiB
... it looks like the header is gone. Is there any way to recover it? I have a sample video under the same settings, but the length is obviously different.Last edited by The Eight-Bit Link; 3rd Jun 2013 at 22:53.

So you can't play it or?
You can try cut it with for example mymp4boxgui, add the mp4 and cut it under SPLIT.Last edited by Baldrick; 4th Jun 2013 at 02:29.

I'm not saying that you don't have a problem with the header, but if your computer is not using the NTFS file system and it runs Windows, 4 GB could indeed simply be too big for it to handle.

How about a hex dump of the first couple hundred characters?

Not sure how much you need, but here's the first x0343.

Well, this hex-to-ascii translation tells me:

cut a piece of the video and attach it. anything under 100mb allowed. this little cutter may work.
