Also can be used to make phone calls. Provides 2 mic level software adjustments:
One for mic volume to person at other end of the line, another for mic volume to hear yourself in earphone (commonly called "sidetone"), but default adjustment is fine (plug and play).

USB audio device have been around for a long time. Starting withe expensive devices like the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX back in ~2002. The original idea was to get the audio circuitry outside the electrically noisy computer case to improve signal to noise ratio.
