So is nvidia 3d a low cost way to 3dtv?

    http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-diy.html

How do you know if your tv is 120hz or not? I have a 32" Westinghouse HDTV. It is three years old or so. Is it too old for this technology? It does have hdmi inputs.

I do have a bluray drive and vista so if my tv is 120hz would this be a way to watch bluray 3d movies? I do have a ps3 but that would require a real 3d hdtv.

Is it my understanding that the nvidia 3d does not require an actual 3dtv?

Edit - Here are the stats I was able to get off cnet once I checked out my tvs model number:

So that means I do not have a 120hz set right?

The model number is 32h240s westinghouse.

So basically I'm shot down before I got started right? There isn't any other option would there? Does ATI have a 3d option that doesn't require a 120hz set?

Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

Your TV is most likely 60Hz unless it has a huge 120 Hz sticker plastered on the front. Even so a 120/240Hz HDTV is not 3D compatible unless you bought it in the last month and it had the big 3D sticker and came with glasses.

NVidia has a small number of display cards, glasses and monitors that support "3D Vision". They are all listed on the link you gave.

Then there is the problem of limited 3D game releases.

Yes you have a 60Hz HDTV.

So to play NVidia 3D games, you need

    1. A fast enough Vista/Win7 computer
    2. Compatible display card
    3. A new monitor
    4. Compatible glasses
    5. A 3D Vision game

The only compatible HDTV listed is Mitsubishi (certain models).

You can watch 3d movies on blu-ray with the normal 3d glasses on a 60hz tv,you dont need nvidia 3d unless you want to play games in 3d which require a 120hz tv with the nvidia glasses.

With newer 3dtv you need the newest monitor with the 3d glasses they provide.

So which movies? Would my ps3 work just fine? And which are "normal" 3d glasses?

Would one of those Disney/Pixar 3d movies work? And can you pick up those glasses cheap?

I'd be interested in experimenting with a rental at blockbuster.

I'm not ready to buy a new tv and given the fact that I can't utilize nvidias system without a new tv I will bypass that.

Thanks for all the info. This is to satisfy my curiosity.

The normal 3d movies on blu-ray will work on any tv with the regular 3d glasses of which there are 2 types, different color schemes, you can read on google the different type of 3d glasses used for normal 3d movies and the newer 3d glasses used with the newest 3dtv's.
