Hello everyone. I've been looking around unsuccessfully to find a solution. I want to do some video editing, but Vegas 10 refuses to import the video.
VirtualDubMod can't either.
I have brand new graphic card drivers and the last K-Lite codec pack installed. I've Windows Vista and Vegas both in 32bits. I tried to use LAV and FFdshow but same result when I try to import: "The file is most likely corrupted or of an unknown format"
Here is GSpot shot of my file :
video info : BluRay 720p AVC x264 (High@L4.1) ac3 1280x536 2100kbps 23.976fps
So it shows "status undetermined" about codec. I checked the K Lite option and both H264 and AVC1 are installed.
I really don't know what to do now!

Thanks. So here is what I have :
It advices me to get Quicktime to open it and for codecs, but I've the last version of it and it doesnt open.
VLC, Media Player Classic and Free Video Converter can open my file, so that means I've some working codec right? But for some reasons Vegas and Virtual dub don't want..!

Open the configuration tool for VFW and activate all the H.264 decoders.
Vegas 10 doesn't support Main Concept, which is the Apple H.264 encoder. Vegas 10 uses QT to decode it, and Apple keeps tweaking QT to block access to competitors. You need to roll back QT to an earlier version that still works.
Also, use Handbrake to find out the codec. That's the program that wrote the file.Last edited by budwzr; 9th Feb 2013 at 15:43.

Yeah, but I don't know which version is good. Try googling for this problem, or search the Sony Vegas Forums. The Vegas forums have that info, for sure.

or format c: reinstall windows and don't install a codec pack.

I'm all for yanking codec packs. It's one of the reasons I use linux now. The system won't let a software install change the system codecs without warning like windows will. If microsoft says on their tech support site that you should not install any 3rd party codec packs why doesn't it warn you when a program does it?
If I were installing a media program under windows now I'd use one of those anti malware programs that warn you of registry changes. But why in the hell should I have to treat a program installer like a virus?
However, I think reinstalling windows is a little extreme. I just uninstalled ffdshow (which is actually one of the less harmful ones) etc and used codec tweak tool to remap everything back to directshow.
I have the impression that people seem to think high quality programs that cost real money are more tolerant re. codecs. The opposite is true. -
Codec packs are to editors, like candy bars to fat kids. Ever try to tell a fat kid to put down the candy bar? They won't do it. They gobble it down faster, as if to say "neener, neener, neener!".

Have you tried remux your mp4?
To for example a m2ts/ts file using tsmuxer or an avi with h264 using mp4camtoavi. No quality loss. Then try import in vegas. -
buy the matrix reloaded movie and rip it yourself. why all the fuss about a single illegally downloaded video you can't open with anything. get over it, delete it and move on. it's not even a good version at 2100kbps, it probably looks like crap to start with.

mp4camtoavi, to get avi video and then RELOAD it into Vegas, ffdshow might read it,
