  1. I have an AVI XVID where the sound is coming only through the subwoofer, just a very slight buzzing noise out of my left and right channels (almost nothing). I would say that it has something to do with my computer audio and speaker setup, however I only have this problem with this specific AVI file. My computer's audio is set up with one left/right headphone jack output to a processor built into the subwoofer in-which the front L/R channels are plugged into. Is it possible that there's something within this AVI file that is assigning all of the audio to play through the sub channel? How would I go about fixing the file (assuming that the problem is not related to my computer audio set up).

Below is the Audio portion of the MediaInfo view=>text.

    Audio
    ID : 1
    Format : MPEG Audio
    Format version : Version 1
    Format profile : Layer 2
    Codec ID : 50
    Duration : 17mn 19s
    Bit rate mode : Constant
    Bit rate : 192 Kbps
    Channel(s) : 2 channels
    Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz
    Compression mode : Lossy
    Stream size : 23.8 MiB (2%)
    Alignment : Aligned on interleaves
Interleave, duration : 24 ms (0.72 video frame)

PS. I did previously start a thread related to this, however I decided to start a new one now that I understand better what the problem may be. My Thread title is now more appropriate. I hope I don't get flamed for this.

Try reconvert it to mp3 instead of mp2(mpeg layer2).

Use for example avidemux, open avi, under video choose copy, under audio choose mp3, under format choose avi, save as video.avi.

  3. I tried what you suggested with avidemux. The resulting file still has the same issue. I went through and checked some of my other AVI XVID's and verified that none of them have this issue, so I'm assuming that it isn't a computer audio set up thing. It must be something specific to this file.

Try demuxing the audio stream with AVI-Mux GUI (or with ffmpeg,

    Code:
    ffmpeg -i input.avi -acodec copy audio.mp2
) to a standalone .MP2 file, and play it with MPC-HC, Winamp, foobar2000, whatever. If the problem persists, then there will be nothing you can do about that, it seems.

  5. So I did a "save audio" with Avidemux, which I'm kinda guessing is the same as what you've suggested, resulted in an mp2 file of the audio only. This audio has the same issue indeed. The frustrating thing is that I know that the audio is there it's just on the wrong channel. I can tweak with my audio decoder settings and get it to play out of the correct speakers and sound fine. I just don't want to share the video with someone and have them run into the same issue with it only playing out of the subwoofer channel.

  6. I suspect the left and right channels are identical except one is inverted. And you system is set up for a 5.1 speaker system, Dolby Matrix decoding, and you don't have any rear speakers. The inverted front channels causes Dolby Matrix to send the audio to the rear channels. Turn off Dolby Matrix decoding. Or change your speaker setup to 2.1. Or remove one of the audio channels. Or invert one of them.

Upload a small sample of the audio if you want someone to check it for you.
