Someone I know did a 720p rip of Dexter Season 1 from his blurays
It is oddly, the highest detail I've ever seen in a movie/show, and its only 720p
Here's some screenshots from Season 1 Episode 1 (no spoilers)

It's a good looking show! Keep in mind though, the coarse facial hair, the lack of makeup on the actor, and the close ups all enhance the perception of detail. Stylistically, they are going for a rough texture, where on another show the actor himself may have a smoother appearance via makeup and lighting, but not due to different encoding settings.

these encoding settings are not so good
5 258 Kbps bitrate is plenty high for 720p video - so the result encoding is fine -
Well I'm not saying the encoding settings are maximum efficiency
I'm just giving the mediainfo + encoding settings
the encoding settings aren't "optimal", but the bitrate is sufficient, so that makes up for it... I'm not sure exactly what I'm trying to say, but lol...
if the bitrate was too low and encoding settings too low, that's different -
Dexter series have always great PQ.
Even now (season 7) they have one of the best camera rigs ever used.
An awesome combination of Arri Alexa & Nikon D800.
If the footage is good , it is easier for us to make better encodings.
I agree that you could use lower bitrate. -

Very sharp. Really ugly color and blacks, though. Count me out.
