I have been converting flv files to avi (with Divx & Xvid codecs) to view on TV via a DVD player that works with Divx files. I have used Pazera Flv Avi Converter and Winavi converter, but I notice a slight quality degradation in the avi file. I have tried increasing the bit rate, but it doesn't seem to help.

Can anyone recommend a program the will maintain the original quality of the flv as closely as possible?

    Thanks...John

You can try xmedia recode, open your flv(s) and

    Under the Format tab choose
    Profile: DVD Player(standalone)
    Codec: Xvid

    Video tab:
    Rate control mode:Constant Quantizer
Quantizer: 3 (increase it for smaller size but lower quality)
    or
    Rate control mode: 2-pass
Bitrate: Use similar bitrate as your source or click on the calculator-icon to calculate exact output file size.

Add Job and Encode and test the avi on your standalone dvd player

Or use Xvid4psp or handbrake 0.9.3 with similar xvid settings.
Or use the basic divx converter.

    Or find better video sources...

Thanks, Baldrick. XMedia worked perfectly. It gave me the best quality conversion that I've gotten so far. Your help is much appreciated.

    Regards...John

Yes it does. It's a Philips and it's compatible with Divx/Xvid. Thanks again.
