Any advice on recoding a .mov file to an Xvid .avi please?

I see AviDemux and VirtualDub both don't support mov files.

  2. avidemux supports some types of MOV, but not all (depends on compression used)

try xmedia recode, format factory, winff

Avidemux should support most mov files. And Virtualdub support it with the quicktime plugin, http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/~fcchandler/Plugins/QuickTime/

Thank you very much for the replies, Baldrick and poisondeathray!

I get this message when I load it into Avidemux:

I'm not sure whether I need "frame accuracy"; I will not edit it, I only will recode it's video and audio (to an Xvid .avi with mp3 audio for greater compatibility with standalone DVD players).

I got it from here; here's it's GSpot:

  6. If you are just re-encoding it, it doesn't matter for frame accuracy, that's only for seeking and making cuts

You can use nightly build (2.6 beta builds) , it handles h.264 much better

So much better, it didn't even give me that warning about "frame accuracy".

    Thank you very much, poisondeathray!

I think this might be the best forum on anything I've found on the web. Happy holidays!

With the recode, all is well with the video, and all is well with the audio with VLC. However on my standalone players* I get no audio. Here's the Gspot:

The only thing that differs from the audio of other files that work on those players, is that it's "Monophonic". I can't see a setting to copy to a pair of stereo channels, so all I can offer is that the recode setting were:

    Audio output: MP3 CBR 128k Quality=0
    Output format: AVI Muxer (AUTO)
Video Output: xvid4 (I was surprised that didn't output an XVID, but instead gave me a DIVX)
    No filters
    ASLevel4, B-frames 2, Gop 100, CQ3, Type=MPEG, Qpel8, Full, Trellis, Auto threading

Can anyone please provide me with my missing clue?

    Thank you very much!

  9. Look at post #5, your gspot information on the mov says original audio is mono AAC

I think you can make fake stereo by using the audio mixer options (not sure if they are available in 2.6 or avidemux)

Oops, sorry, it turns out the issue was with my TV. Because today that recode with mono mp3 audio has sound from both standalone players.
