  1. Hi,

i just added an additional track to an avi using virtualdubmod, but i would like to edit the name of the track too. I want the video to display the name of the track on the audio track selection menu (in dvix player e.g) as English, Spanish, whatever, instead of mpeg3 layer or something like that. What program can do that without having to re-encode? i thought virtualdubmod could do it since it has an option to add comments onto the tracks such as the language and other stuff, but none of this data appears on the selection menu of any player, so im unsure whats for.

    Thank you.

  2. MPCHC and VLC will show the Title field for the audio tracks.

  3. But i have seen some movies show the name of the track as English or another language in divdx player. What do i have to change so my tracks appear with the name i give them?

Try abcAVI Tag Editor. IIRC, that has a spot for changing the "language designator". If not that, I know AVIMux-GUI has it, but you'd probably have to remux the file to do it...

  5. Thanks for the answer. Okay, i tried avimux-gui first and it successfully adds the new audio track to the avi, however for some reason it wont open in divx player. It only plays one second and then stops. Why is that? it opens fine in other players such as WMP and VLC. Also, i cant edit the name of the tracks there.

So i tried abcavi tag editor which shows all the info i want to edit but it wont allow me to.

i marked in red the info i want to edit. This is what dvix player shows as the name of the audio track so i want to substitute all that for the name of the language but this program wont let me do that. Any ideas please?

    Thank you.

  6. Use VirtualDubMod. Use the Comments dialog to add a Title field.

  8. Track information like this is not an official part of the AVI standard. Are you sure Divx Player supports it?

  9. No, actually i dont know. But since it does display the type of audio i thought that if im able to edit that info then i can make it display there what i intend. I just checked back in VLC player and that one does display the name of the track as i entered so maybe you are right and its just divx player that doesnt support it.

  10. The type of audio is a part of the AVI specification -- otherwise players wouldn't be able to play the audio.

  11. I see, then its safe to assume we cant have divx player display the name of the track as we want, right? well, thank you anyway. I really appreciate it.

Sorry I didn't get back sooner.

    AVIMux-GUI - language change:

Tracks don't really have "Names" in the AVI spec, though they do have language designators (which is what I believe you're really asking about).

If it doesn't open in divx player, did you rename the extension to *.divx from *.avi? It might help. Otherwise, I'd say there's something wrong with the player. AVIMux-GUI is a pretty darn good (and to-spec) AVI muxer.

But no player seems to show that flag.

  14. Cornucopia, thank you but i cant see your attachment. The link seems to be broken. The language of the track shows in VCL but no matter what i do, it wont show in Divx player. It only displays "Track 1:Mpeg layer etc."
