Hi guys just a small quick question here , i havent been using this program for a great amount of time but been messing around, Because i like to make dvds with a few films on the one disc i obviously need to lower bitrate to around 2000 so the quality is ok but not great.
Question is whats better for a low bitrate movie , the sharpen line in avs script or msharpen? and what value do you think would be best for a low bitrate darker movie?
Or does anyone think any of the other things i can add to avisynth script will give a better picture like hqdn3d and so on?
Cheers!

If you are looking for improvement on darker areas, you should play with HCenc LUMGAIN feature. Go to 'Edit Title'/'Video', toggle off 'Auto Video Setup', click on 'HCenc Advanced Option' and increase LUMGAIN. Use a step-wise approach.
Sharpen can help with low bitrates, but may increase artifacts. MSharpen is less invasive than Sharpen, very useful with anime. Hqdn3d removes noise, very handy with DV video captures.

Sharpening the picture increases the bitrate requirement. msharpen will be better than sharpen. The latter will increase noise as well as sharpen edges. Strong spacial and temporal filtering reduces the bitrate requirement but can also produce posterization artifacts (especially in dark areas) and makes everything look like plastic. There are custom matrices optimized for low bitrate encoding.
