For some reason, Media Player Classic won't play MP4 videos properly. The subtitles keep blinking, and the video plays, backs up a bit, plays, over and over. It looks shaky and distorted. I am not sure what happened but I don't remember having this issue two weeks ago. I have also tried several different versions of MPC, and got the same results. I even tried reinstalling the K-Lite Codec pack. Every other video format plays perfectly--so what gives?
Also, I have tried VLC, and it does play MP4, but it is not as fast as MPC.

At a minimum, you should right click the video while it is playing and display filters.
It will show you what is being used to play the file. Mpc-hc can either be configured to use it's built-in filters,
of it can use the system codecs/splitters.
Thus, the "k-lite codec pack" may/may not be relevant.
