Some idiot sent me a DVD Recorder DVD that he piled too much crap onto and I believe the result is HalfD1. What is the best way to get this back to full size? I believe I have dealt with this before by simply opening it in MPEGVCR and adjusting the output specs before saving it. Should I re-encode it with TMPGEnc Plus or MainConcept Reference? I'll be putting it to a single layer DVD of course.

WHy not leave it as 352x480? It is dvd compliant. Or else must you reconvert.

My only concern is that my friends who also want this video are not very "video-savvy". They will probably want to convert this to their iPhones and other assorted hand-held gadgets....something like this might throw them off....maybe?

Any decent conversion software should take the 'display aspect ratio' into account when resizing the video.
Even if you re-encoded the video to 720x480 or 704x480, neither is 4:3 (square pixels). If they're not sure how to convert the video properly they could screw that up just as easily. Or the interlacing, or the frame rate, etcLast edited by intracube; 24th Sep 2011 at 08:33.

I have to agree with Baldrick, just leave it alone. Why take the quality hit on something that may not even be a problem. If it is 1/2 D1 it is already compromised in quality.
However if you feel you must resize it then use the max legal DVD bitrate and put 1 hour per DVD.If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself.
