I have a mpg that I edited. I want to burn it to a DVD-R so I can play it in my dvd player.
I use ImgBurn to "create image file from files/folders" After this is done, I've created an ISO file from that mpg.
I then use ImgBurn to "write image file to disc" But when I am done, its just a copy of the mpg file on the DVD-R. I can't play it in DVD or blu ray player.

ImgBurn is a burning program.....not an "authoring" program.
You need to "author" that mpeg file to DVD Video first.

I am not understanding how to author. Are there free programs that convert the mpg to DVD Video?
I am confused since ImgBurn changed the .mpg extension to .ISO extension when I created the image file from folder, I thought all I had to do was burn the image file to disc. -
Nope. You can make an ISO image of a bunch of MP3 files and text documents too.
There are several free authoring programs around. The only one I can think of is DVDFlick right now.

I remain amazed that you've been an active member for over 9 years and made over 700 posts here and yet you continue to ask questions like you just joined the forums today. Granted many of us need help from time to time with various things, but after 9+ years of membership, I'd really hope that you are smart enough to just look for the guides to help you first and then come with questions rather than throwing your arms up and begging for help like you have no idea that we have guides at all. Seriously - just what the hell have you been doing here for 9+ years that the term "author a DVD" completely and utterly baffles you and apparently this is the first time you've ever heard of it?
Under the "HOW TO" section in the column on the left side of this web site there is a section called "All guides". There are guides on how to author DVDs. Can you please at least make an effort?
Then again, we've got a small number of members with endless patience for people like you who aren't even trying to help themselves, so perhaps one of them will have mercy on you and read this thread and spoon feed you the help you are too lazy to get yourself. -
And how on earth after 9 years of membership and 700 posts does jyeh74 not know better than to cross post on this?

hech54 and oldman64, when I install DVD Flick, and try to launch it, it automatically tries to install Strongvault Online Backup for some reason. It indicates that the feature you are tryi to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. I cannot cancel or do anything to exit it. -
Where did you download it from?
You might try AVS2DVD, instead. It's still actively supported, and you can contact the developer here on VideoHelp for whatever questions you might have.If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -
Sounds like you didn't get a good copy of it. Mine didn't do that and has no restrictions like you mentioned. In fact, the website specifically and proudly states, "we have no adware, nagware,...of any kind".
But there are plenty of DVD authoring apps to choose from. A true authoring app rarely does re-encoding - usually this occurs only when the original MPEG2 asset isn't actually DVD-Video compliant (just CLOSE to compliant), and even then, only re-encodes when it includes an encoder. Many don't.
Just look here for choices: https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/authoring-dvd. I'd start by trying DVDAuthorGUI.

Given you've already burned the mpeg video to DVD as a file, have you tried playing it with your DVD player? Many/most DVD players will play mpeg2 video burned as a data file to disc. Years ago I had a DVD player which wouldn't play AVIs, but even it would still play mpeg2 files.

Given the other statements made by the OP, I would question whether the disk was actually inserted into a standalone player; or perhaps it was tested by just spinning it on his finger.
I, too, share Jman's incredulity.
Also would recommend that the OP look into DVD-Video standards to make sure the original MPG clip meets them - if he doesn't know about authoring, a compatibility check would also appear advisable. -
Well you know what they say..... assumption is the mother of all screw-ups. Hence my enquiring as to whether the OP's statement was based on assumption or whether he'd actually tested it. I'd imagine not every DVD player can, but I think you'd be somewhat hard pressed to find a Bluray player which can't.

Ai Haibara, I downloaded it from the direct download link here

When I first installed DVDFlick years ago....upon opening DVDFlick something from Roxio would also try to install so I guess it's not a rare occurrence. I just blew it off because I did have a "partial" install of a Roxio product on my computer (the CD label maker portion of a larger Roxio suite).

Lately I have found DVD Flick 1.3.0.6.to give unsatisfactory results, I can't figure out why.
If you have a single Mpeg or VOB file with no bup's or ifo's (i.e. no other files needed for a DVD) the easiest way I have found to create the proper structure is to use Simple DVD Creator Load the your mpeg file into the Title Property 'Video' click the >> and navigate to your Mpeg file. Simple DVD Creator will demux it automatically - once finished you will see your demuxed files in the Video and Audio. Then select add chapters every 5,10, 15 minutes (I leave it at 15 minutes) Then under destination select a file to put your newly created dvd files into (I've usually already created a file for this purpose on my hard drive before I open Simple DVD Creator) When everything is selected press 'Create DVD' and let it run until it stops processing. The time will vary depending on the length of the file you are processing. Close programme - then you can use Imgburn to first build, then burn your new DVD.
NB: if you have several Mpegs you want to create into a dvd, you will have to join them into one file before you use Simple DVD Creator - you can use VobEdit for VOB files or ImagoMpeg Muxer for Mpeg files. But if each Mpeg2/vob file is lets say for the sake of clarity an episode - then create each separately with Simple DVD Creator - placing them into their own destination folder called lets say, ep1/ep2 etc - you can then use DVDShrink in reauthor mode to create your own DVD from all the files. You can even create titles for them using Titlewriter.
It may all seem a little overwhelming if you are new to it - but there is nothing like trying it to teach you how it's done.Last edited by bahjan; 4th Apr 2013 at 06:16.
