  1. Yes, I am looking for a player under 200 bucks that will play DVD, DVD-R, and CD-R (with a good quality Mp3 decoder).

I don't really care about VCD's because I am hoping to replace that mess with DVD-R's...

Does anyone know of a player that is great for my needs?

I was gonna get the Pioneer 343, but it does not play Mp3, so I was gonna also buy a cheap Apex to do my Mp3. But thats like 300 bucks total...

If there is a good unit that will do what I am looking for, let me know please!

    Thanks!

  3. I read the Mp3 playback was bad on the Sampo 620. Is that true?

I am trying to build a nice entertainment system for my new living room, so I want to choose these components carefully...
    hehe

  4. You said GOOD quality. Sampo is not that BAD with all other option (u want that). I tested miniDVD. Plays perfectly. Regarding mp3, if your mp3 file is good it is going to play good. Sony is not going to make a DVD player with CD-R/CD-RW/DVD-R compatible with mp3.

  5. Cool.

So you think the Sampo will play most of the DVD-R media?

I tell ya its tough to decide, since DVD-R is SO new to the scene, but its gonna be a MUST if you have a DVD player...

  7. I have a sampo 620, and I'm generally satisfied with it.

It's played everything I've thrown at it, including lots of
brands of cdrs burned with various incarnations/variants
    of Sefy's famous TMPG templates.

There are hacks to disable region encoding and
macrovision, if that sort of thing matters to you.

I don't know for sure that dvd-r disks will play in it,
    but everything else seems to.

  8. The only Apex's I can get my hands on locally in the stores here are the AD 1500, AD 3201, and the AD 800.

Are these newer models any good?

I like the reviews about the older models, but they are becomming harder to find...
