Ok I know all abot converting, changing, scaling, interlace flickering and how to turn it on/off etc but:
Footage taken straight to Vegas 8 with no conversion required via an existing DVD. (vob file). (No problems when viewing original DVD!)
Views fine in vegas, and on external crt monitor.
Rendered out (video only) of vegas as DVD Architect PAL 720x576x32 (same as original vob, same as project proporties, displays " no compression required whilst rendering).
If I bring this rendered file back into Vegas it plays fine!
If I import the file to DVD Architect to create a dvd and previev the file the picture is perfect. (monitor and external crt)
HOWEVER: When I create the actual DVD, standard PAL 720x576x32, as the video footage has been all along: I get a sort of flicker or movement at the edge of some shots. It is especially noticable on shots where the footage shrinks down to allow titles to be displayed.
Kind of an Interlace flicker where the bottom and top edges of the shrunken clip seem to move back and forth??
I have tried the "Reduce interlace flicker" setting to no effect and this would seem to be more for any static images with high resolution that are added.
My menu screen at start is fine it is only present during the playback of the original footage.
Now heres a thing! When i use DVD architect to prepere and burn DVD it leaves the prepered files in a folder for subsequent burns.
If I take this VOB file and view it in vegas it is also fine!
So I only get this effect on the actual DVD itself.
I'm stumped!!

Is the source DVD actually interlaced? 50 unique fields? If it's progressive, perhaps
it used a non-interlaced encode mode, while your new DVD used interlaced. -
Original DVD is "Interlaced"
Not sure what the 50 lines is and how to check this?
Any further suggestions?
Thanks! -
What happens if you view the physical DVD on a computer with DVD software (e.g. power dvd, windvd, etc...) ? or if you view the DVD on a different setup (e.g. different dvd player at a friend's house) ?
When you bring the authored file or VOB's back into vegas or dvda - if you're using default settings - you're only viewing half the resized fields (it's effectively been single rate deinterlaced for display purposes - 50i gets displayed as 25p) . But when you view on real DVD player or DVD playback software, it bob deinterlaces it (50i gets displayed as 50p). So reimporting isn't necessarily a good test, because you don't see the full temporal resolution and differences between fields (you're only looking at the even or odd ones)
You mentioned "shrunken clip" . What were the original source files and project settings used? Or did you mean you've scaled down the SD clip within the SD frame size ?
If you can post a sample of the output, it might help narrow down the issues as wellLast edited by poisondeathray; 24th Jun 2011 at 11:58.

By Jove sir! I think you have it!
In my frustration I neglected to move any further away from My PC and External monitor!
I also neglected to burn a second DVD for comparison.
When I did the 2nd copy works beautifully on everything!!
The first Burn still flickers on my home Player but is hardly noticeable on Power DVD!
I think I’ll leave it at that and thank you for your help!
But never fear…….I’ll be BACK!!!
