  1. Hi guys

When I load my *.d2v films in FITCD 3.0, fitcd advises to take a 1194 min bitrate, though I am used to using 700 mn bitrate in CCE encoding values

Is it a really big difference between 700 and 1194 for the min bitrate

    I need your answers

    Thanks

  2. some dvd players dont like the bitrate to drop below minimum vcd spec (even for svcds) so it just SUGGESTS around 1200.. but since youve done 700 before (my player will play 600 constant no prob) your fine with your origional...

if you give too high a minimum bitrate(low action scenes), it leaves little bitrate on the positive side for your max bitrate(high action scenes)

a setup like 1200,1300,2500 is not much use (unless its a movie with little action) because to get to 2500 while maintaining 1300 average means it only has the 100 kbps difference from average to minimum to steal from for the 2500 kbps scenes... most likely for a average movie(moderate action).. those settings would yeald a movie with settings more like 1200,1300,1500 and never get near 2500 (maybe an occasional spike depending on encoder) most movies have scenes that only need 700 kbps (a low movement conversation scene - or some undetailed low movement scene) so your better off going that low(700) for minimum and giving some headroom for your high-action scenes(2500)

i use 0 as a minimum.. i doubt it ever drops that low.. but it gives the encoder all the room it needs for the high end scenes...

I don't know why fitcd is calculating such a high min value but it advisable to ignore it. The min value should always be set to the lowest bitrate you think you will need to use on the least complex scene in your movie, ie: credits don't need more than 500kbits.

Raising the min value, in most cases, will actually result in lower quality since you will waste bitrate on scenes that don't need it. The only reason you should ever raise your min value is if you feel the encoder is allocating too few bits to non-complex scenes. If you are encoding svcd or xvcd then I think a min value of 700kibits is certainly high enough to offset any possible allocation inconsistencies an mpeg encoder might have.

  4. I have remarked that on low bitrate scenes CCE gives me from time to time bad images but not always
