  1. Hello everyone,

    This is my first post to this forum and I am also new to this encoding thingy. I read the previous posts and learned how to convert avi and mp4 to MKV using mkvMerge GUI.
    The problem is, after the muxing finishes, The file thumbnail changes. I want it to look like the other files (a tiny snapshot of the video) My mp4s doesn't look that way either...

    p.s I have only ffdshow, haali splitter installed on a Windows 7 comp.

    Thanks...

    Have you set Haali to allow thumbnail extraction?
    Options->Explorer integration->Enable thumbnails extraction

    In XP, I use K-Lite Codec Tweak Tool to show thumbnails. I have Haali enabled and ffdshow installed and set to ffmpeg-mt for H264 files. All of my thumbnails now show up in Explorer.

  5. Thanks Darrels. I Installed that codec Tweak Tool and selected all in the thumbnail settings...but nothing happened...So, why are still my mkv's different than each other? (like that "The American.mkv" file)

    I'm not sure unless the first frame of the converted files are corrupt. Were you able to see the thumbnail of the original files before converting? Just changing containers shouldn't have changed anything. The thumbnail should still show up if it was showing before. I notice that none of the mp4 files in your screenshot show thumbnails.

    I found this googling for no mp4 thumbnails...

    Goto
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
    .mp4
    ShellEx

    Create a Key in there named {BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}
    with a data value of {c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590}

    So then you have :
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
    .mp4
    ShellEx
    {BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}

    and inside here ^^^^^^^^^
    you have a new string value that looks like:

    (Default) Reg_SZ {c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590}

  7. that key BB2E617C-0920-11d1... is already there but inside it, there is only the "default" value in it. I didn't get what I was supposed to do after that...with the data value...where and how do I put it?

    Another thing...The mkv's I just downloaded all have thumbnails...its the stuff that I mux with MKVMerge GUI, it comes out without a thumbnail...

  8. Is it possible to put a movie poster in a mkv video? It would be awesome to have DTS+video+subtitle+poster inside the file.

    Right click Default and choose Modify.

    I found a download called "Thumbnail_enable_custom_frame". I don't remember what forum guided me to it. Don't know if it will work for Windows 7 though.

    http://www.mediafire.com/?no1jnz5rxmz

    1.Run disable_default_thumbnail_generator.bat
    2.Install MatroskaSplitter.exe (all options — default)
    3.After go Start -> Haali Media Splitter -> Media Splitter Settings
    4.Open Options -> Explorer integration
    5.Enable thumbnail extraction -> Yes
    6.Thumbnails offset -> 300000 (this will show frame at 30 seconds. change to whatever you want)
    7.Run thumbnail_enable.reg

    I had to...

    8. Run enable_default_thumbnail_generator.bat

    ...to get other thumbnails back.

    The frame offset seems to work for other file types besides H264 mkv and mp4.

    You can't adjust the frame offset in Haali media splitter without disabling the default thumbnail generator.

    .

    I got this from the bat and reg files...

    disable_default_thumbnail_generator

    regsvr32.exe /u shmedia.dll

    disable_default_thumbnail_generator

    regsvr32.exe shmedia.dll

    thumbnail_enable.reg
