Use 2-pass mode when you need a specific file size (bitrate). Like when you need to fit a 2 hour movie on a 700 MB CD. You will get the best quality for that file size. Use constant quality encoding when you want to be assured of a specific quality and don't care about the file size.
If you encode a video at constant quality of 20 and it turns out with an average bitrate of 1000 kbps, then go and make a 2-pass encoding at 1000 kbps, the two videos will look nearly identical.Last edited by jagabo; 15th Mar 2011 at 06:38.
