    Gday,

I have a Promise TX4650 SATA Raid card and would like to use this to add 4 more 2TB HDD's to my pc... The "problem" is that it seems that I cannot use the drives as "normal" drives with this card and it HAS to be set up in a RAID array or JBOD... If anyone knows how to set it up so the drives would be K:, L:, M:, and N: could you please let me know..

I have already used the 6 ports available on my motherboard (ASUS Striker Extreme).. The other possability is by using a port multiplier, but have been told that it may not be compatiable with the controller on the mobo as the controller HAS to be ok with a port multiplier ..

    ANY help is appreciated..

    James..

From what I can find, that is a RAID only card. It doesn't support single drive setup.

You need something like a PROMISE SATA300 TX4 PCI SATA II (3.0Gb/s) 4-Port Adapter. I have a couple of these and they work fine with individual SATA drives, no RAID.

"JBOD" stands for Just a Bunch of Disks. No real RAID. That's what you want. So, whether or not it is telling you that JBOD is a type of RAID, it isn't. If that's one of your choices, it's safe to choose it.

P.s. Every RAID card I've ever used (prolly 8-12) has ALWAYS had a straight JBOD option.
