Hey Guys,
I've been enjoying playback from an external hard drive for a while via a USB2 input in my LG BR player, that is until it crapped out recently. I ordered a Panny with USB input, only to find out that it only supports smaller FAT32 file system data, not the NTSF file system my windows based source PC uses. I found a program to re-format the ext. drive to FAT32, but now when I try to transfer a file from my PC, I get a “not sufficient space on disk” error message. I'm also concerned about the Panny BDT100 compatibility with a 1TB external drive. Do I need a different player for the ext. HD? Please advise...I really could use some expert help here.

fat32 has a 4GB file size limit. you can get around it by making sequentially numbered multiple part videos like vid.001.mp4 vid.002.mp4 and the player should handle it ok. if you can return the panny i would and get something like the lg 570 for around $150.

Thanks aedipuss. I couldn't get the Panny to play from the USB even with a single file that was under 4GB. I also had a Western Digital USB playback unit stop working not long after the LG unit stopped working. I pulled the little WD unit out when the LG died, then the WD unit stopped playback a couple of days later. Makes me wonder if something could be up with the external HD, even though it was working fine with the PC. The only other external HD I have to test with has ~150GB of data on it. I tested the LG with the second HD before I ordered the Panny. It would browse files on either, just no playback. I'll test it with the WD usb playback unit and see what happens. Is LG the only player that will work for this type of playback? The last one only lasted about 14 months.

will the panny play from a usb thumb drive? make sure you are using a video file in a format the panny accepts.
the lg's tend to play more formats from more sources than other inexpensive br players.--

Negative, I tried that also. Panny is going back for another LG. Thanks again
