    Hello,

Is it possible to use a 2gb flash drive to playback an mp4 video, I tried but wasn't able to, program that opened to play (Nero), said it wasn't playable (app not accept format). Meaning I may be needing a video codec? on the pc it works fine, but from the flash drive it doesnt. what do I need?

    Thanks,

    gcam

Absolutely. Just use something other than Nero to play it.

Are you wanting to play the video on someone else's computer, without worrying about having to install a player? Or just attempting to play it on your home system?
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

Well yeah to the 1st question..what I am after is loading a full movie to the flash drive and sending it to a customer (I sell dvds right now), where then they can play it once inserted to pc and watch the movie, then they can either keep or return the flash drive for credit towards next purchase. But unless they dont have an mp4 player, it wont work right?

I tried it again removed and re-inserted flash drive to pc, a menu popped up (what app do you want to use etc), selected real player, but didnt do anything. Will I have to install something in the flash drie for that to work?

    Thanks,

There are a number of standalone players you can use on a Flash drive, like mplayer (probably needs the extra directories it usually comes with, though), VLC, kmplayer, etc. Maybe Media Player Classic, but I'm not sure. Most of them generally don't depend on whatever codecs are installed on the system and use their own.
You can also write an autoplay script to automatically tell the player to play the video - but I'm not sure how many people are keeping autoplay off, these days. (I also don't know if any autoplay script can override those choice dialogs XP and Vista give, either.)

However, since this is intended for commercial use, you'd have to spend some time going over the licenses of each of the players and see if they'll let you use them for that purpose.

How much are you planning to charge per video? I know 2gig flash drives are not cheaper then a dvd even the generic ones so this sounds very costly. I prefer to watch my videos on the tv and not a computer. You would need for all your customer to use acomputer or have a way to watch a usb device on their tv. Most people do not have a setup like that. Not all dvd players yet have this feature

I see what u mean, will take a look at those players and their licenses to see what I can do. I think I had to do something like that back before DVD came out, I also had an autoplay feature on a vcd, seems like many moons ago.

    Thanks,

Not sure about that, been tinkering with the idea for a while. I can get 2gb flash drives for under $15 on ebay, just bought two Kingston Data Travelers, one for 10.45 and another for 11.45, so...

I currently sell dvds at $15 plus shipping, so I might just keep that price the same, then add that plug "send it back for a credit". I can get a full dvd (4.5gb) down to under 2 gigs (apprx 1.7gb), so that would fit perfectly in a 2gb flash drive.
