  1. Greetings,

I have an avi file in DV format that was made with FAST DV Master Pro some 10 years ago, and I'm trying to get it to play in XP. At first it only played video without sound in WMP, but after installing AC3Filter it does have sound, but it's all garbled. It sounds as if it's playing 100x faster than it should.

According to GSpot, the audio is 0x2000 (Dolby AC3) 48000Hz 1728 kb/s tot (2 chnls).

Isn't that 1728 bitrate extremely high?

I have tried playing with some of the AC3Filter settings and some of them make the audio 'less garbled', but that's it. Is there some other AC3 filter or setting or player I should try? I also tried VLC but it does not play sound.

    Thanks.

Very odd. If it is a true DV-format .avi file, then the audio stream should be PCM wav, not AC3. Where did the .avi come from, and how was it originally captured and saved? Seems like someone did something wrong somewhere.

  3. The avi was captured from a MiniDV cam to the FAST DV Master Pro card through firewire. It was me who did this capture and maybe I messed things up, but it's been so long that I don't even remember the name of the editing software that came with the card...

  4. the ac-3 isn't in spec either, 1728 kbps is why too high to play correctly. 448 is normal ac-3 high quality and 640 is max. nothing is going to play it properly like that. see if something like avidemux will read it and let you convert it, but it's doubtful.
