  1. I am trying to use avidemux 2.5.4 (r7200) running on Windows 7 to convert a Windows Media Video file to mp4 (MPEG-4 AVC, AAC (Faac)). When I try to play the converted file using either Windows Media Player or VLC media player, the video is fine but the audio is garbled and unintelligible, lots of hissing and screeching sounds.

This is the file I'm trying to convert:

    Code:

Any idea what I can do to convert this file to MP4 AVC/AAC?

You could try a ffmpeg frontend like xmedia recode or maybe freemake video converter.

Perhaps try the AVIdemux proxy. It uses Avisynth to open the file, and frameserves to AVIdemux itself.

  4. Thanks. I was able to get this to work using avsproxy. It seems that the version of Avidemux that I'm using, 2.5.4 (r7200), does not support decoding of Windows Media Audio files. I tried one file that used WMA 9.2, and when I tried to play it using Avidemux, all I heard was a lot of screeching noise. I then tried playing a file that used WMA 10 Professional. In that case Avidemux said: "No audio decoder found for this file. Save (A+V) will generate bad AVI. Save audio will work".
