Hey everyone, I've been downloading my favorite TV shows off the internet in XviD format, and I'm wanting to put them on DVDs. The quality of the videos is fairly good, but I know it probably wont look that great on my TV. Does anyone know how I can get the best possible quality out of these XviD files when converting them to DVD? I am willing to buy any software that you recommend. I currently have TMpeg DVD Author or something like that. Would that work? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

Avs2dvd for conversion to DVD that will play on most all set top DVD players.

Or get a player that plays xvid/divx files and don't convert at all

Honestly, look for another source if quality is important to you. This means, downloads will take longer for better quality sources but that's the trade off. I don't even bother with XVID anymore; simply pass on it.

Do as recommended. get a DVD player that will play these files as they are without re-encoding to DVD.

DVD Flick is good for this, especially with tv episodes. It's free, and I find the PQ to be quite acceptable. Add menus, if you like, as well! But I also suggest buying a divx player if you are dealing with a lot of these files.

I would buy the dvd player, save the xvid's to a dvd-r...play 3 or 4 from the disc...or throw them on a hard drive...or...put em on a thumb drive and play em thru the usb port of the dvd player...your quality will be the exact same if u convert to to dvd so why waste the time and discs.

Any converting/re-encoding will cause the video(s) to take a quality hit. Whether or not this is acceptable is up to the person who's doing the re-encoding.

Note that DVD (and even BD) players that play DivX/Xvid tend to be picky, and aren't guaranteed to play every single .AVI/.divx video out there. Most won't play HD-resolution AVIs, for example.

by exactly the same I mean the same as the xvid source...I've had some decent xvid's convert petty good in the past but more often that not, it's a waste to me to convert an xvid into sumthin thats no better than its face value

These days, most popular TV series are available on DVD (usually in boxed sets). The OP posted this in Sept., but for the rest of us, an easy solution this season would be a request to Santa.
