Guys, So I got a nice smartphone and a lot of train commuting and am converting a number of films. I am getting old enough to prefer (need) subtitles.

My question has to do with creating a (non anamorphic?) black aspect compensation bar on the bottom only and hard-coding subtitles there.
Fro example my handsets screen is 800x480, which is 1.67:1 .
Normally I convert bd and 720 material to 2channel final size about 1.5 gb using handbrake or ripbot
I leave aspect on 1.78:1 and I crop 2.35:1 down to 2 to 1 or so.
I hard code subs through either program

So as long as I have quite a bit of horizontal black bars (not actually on the video but present on playback whcih I think is anamorphic) at 1.78:1, I would much prefer to place the subtitles there. instead of over the picture which obscures picture and also is not as readable due to background of picture instead of black background.

Any suggestions? I see and successfully use cropping settings, but I see no padding suggestion whcih would allow me to code 1.78:1 shifting the picture all the way to the top and the back bars from the 1:67 display to the bottom in an actual embedded picture so I can try and place the subtitles there.

I am also not sure if there are some kind of command line strings for ripbot's sub programs or handbrake that allow me to force the subitles to the created bottom black area, which I need to do to get desired result.

In short: Method needed to shift pic to top and create non anamorphic black bar to bottom only (or mostly) and force hardcoded/burned-in subtitle position to actual bottom black area of final image.

    Thanks in advance!

Note: As far as I can tell there are not soft sub mkv playback applicaitons for my Android.
