  1. hi !

Since ten years, i have many videos on my hard drive and it takes many capacity. it is began very hard and long to backup my data so i need to reduce their size and keep the quality.

i wish to compress them into a codec which could keep the quality and compress really.

I don't care nor about the cpu ressources to play it, neither the compatibility with mobile players and other systems.
i wish only they stay playable in VLC and Adobe premiere.

so, which video codec compress more and keep more the quality ?

What format are your videos in now ? Depending on what you have, you may not be able to make them smaller without reducing quality, possibly substantially. Use mediainfo to determine what you have. Post a tree view here so we can see what you are dealing with.

Storage has become extremely cheap over the past two years, with 1 and 2 TB external drives being extremely affordable and great value for money. You are better off getting a couple of these and putting your video data there, than compressing it and reducing the quality.

Recompressing your videos will take much longer than backing them up. And you can only decrease the quality.

If you insist on recompressing, x264 will be best for most.
