  1. Hello all, I've been "out of the game" in regards to video editing for some time and am trying my hand at getting back into it. I've come across a problem though. I'm trying to make a DVD of a video I recorded on my Tivo. I took out the "tivo junk" via DirectShowDump and created a .mpg file. This file played fine from begging to end in Microsoft Media Player. However, when I try to import it into most video editors (such as VituralDubMod) in order to cut out commercials, the audio become very out of sync while playing it. This is BEFORE I actually do any cutting so it is not a case of splicing a mpeg file incorrectly.

I believe this may be a case of missing frames in the video steam. After searching I tried a program called PVAStrumento to attempt to fix the mpg. It log found hundreds of what it calls missing frames in the video.

Is there anyone out there that can help me get this file either into a good mpeg or I would even be ok with a loss of quality to transcoding it to another format that can be edited.

Also, I am inclined to believe the missing video frames theory because the video is only 58 minutes long, while the audio is the entire hour.

Try VideoRedo to fix your video. I use it on all of my Tivo recording that I want to edit and do something with. Quickstream fix is the utility built into VideoRedo that can fix these time stamp issues. They have a fully functional 14 day trial if you want to tinker with it before you buy it. I have been using for 4+ years. Great program and they have great support on the forums.

Yep videoredo is awesome when working with tivo files.

Also you might look at using kmttg to download the file from your tivo to your hard drive. It automates the process and give you a mpeg for your final output.

Agreed. moyekj (author of kmttg) has done some fabulous coding there. MUCH better program than Tivo Desktop.
