How can I join two MPEG-2 (.MPG) files together? (ie. without any recoding, etc)

Also, how about joining two AVI files together? (is VirtualDub the best method for that using Direct Stream copy?)

For Mpeg-2, AVI Demux is a better choice, as virtualdub doesn't do mpeg-2. Virtualdub is OK for AVI files, assuming they have the same resolution, aspect ratio and framerate, and the audio parameters also match.

Thanks! AVI Demux won't recompress the files or anything, right?

Also, is there anything better than VirtualDub for AVI? (is AVI Demux better for AVI as well?)

For AVI Avidemux and VDub probably give equally good results in just joining.

However, VDub is fussier while Avidemux can cope better with imperfections.

As for MPEG2, MPEG-VCR is excellent but not free -- though they periodically have free offers if you keep your eyes open at e.g. http://www.giveawayoftheday.com

  5. Also not free, but well worth its price, I think . . . VideoRedo does MPG2 (and other formats) joining with minmial fuss, as well as being a crackerjack editor.

    Tmpgenc, Avidemux and VideoRedo.

VideoRedo is an excellant MPEG editor which uses Smart Render but is not free. It has quickfix feature which prevents sync issues. A must for anyone with a DVD Recorder.

TMPGEnc and Avidemux will do what you want though.

VideoReDo is a good investment and will do the job,
Boilsoft Videojoiner works well for joining video but is a one trick pony.
