  1. I have a single DVD movies in 2 parts both xvid format. I have converted both parts to individual DVD complaint mpeg files. I need to join the two files (remember they have identical characteristics) into one which i can then input into my authoring program (my authoring program treats then as two movies and menus are made accordingly). Which program can i use to do this that will smart render the file (and process only the 'joint') rather than process the whole thing again which will be time consuming and deteriorate the quality.

You can try avidemux, load first mpg, file->append next mpg, under video and audio choose copy, format mpeg-ps(a-v), and save as a mpg.

  3. tmpgenc has a split/join tool.

I don't know if you used MP1 or MP2, and I don't know if its true for mp2, but for mp1 files, you can literally just append the 2 files

    file1.mpg, file 2.mpg

type file*.mpg >>full.mpg and then full.mpg contains both, and its just fine. Used to do it all the time with VCD files. May or may not leave compliant mp2 file, but should only take a few minutes to try. Let me know if it works.

Same is true for MP1 and MP2 for the TMPGenc merge tool. I know you need the plug-in for MPEG2 encoding, not sure about the merge tool though. And, it does only merge, not reencode. So, if you've already got a DVD compliant mpeg2, then that's what you'll have when your done.

Wow, just realizing how long its been since I've done that. Used it to merge pieces of TV captures - minus the commercials in my pre-DVR days. The cut tool was not frame specific, per se. It was based on time but 1/30 second intervals. Had to kind of work your way into it.
    Have a good one,
