Are there any media recorders at all that record non interlaced video. I would like a media recorder that doesn't alter the video being recorded from my video game console.

The hauppauge hd pvr can record progressive via component. However it can not record 1080p. It can record 1080i and 720p. Plus it can record dolby digital 5.1 via fiber optic input.

I happened to have discovered the Hauppage HD PVR by total luck. Thank you for mentioning it. Also I am now under the impression that most video game consoles output interlaced video. The interlacing usually isn't from the DVD recorder itself.

It's not the console its what the game is encoded in.

And fyi if the game outputs in 1080i/p you can set the console output to 720p and force it to be 720p. This works for the xbox 360 and the ps3.

Also fy the nintendo wii is only 480p and only with the component cables.

Right it's the game conforming to the console's standard, but technically not the console itself that interlaces the video.

I don't think thats exactly right. If the game is encoded in 1080i the system will play it back in 1080i. But you can manipulate the system to output at 720p if you want.

Right. Didn't mean to say you can't change it.
