The Australian PS3 happily handles movies created this way. There are two things that jump out as possibilities, beyond the dubious media.

    1. The PS3 is resolutely region locked. If, by some minor chance, you have added a region code for the wrong region, it will not play. I don't believe this is the case here, but it is possible.

    2. More likely, you have created PAL discs, and the US PS3 is NTSC only. I don't know for certain that the US PS3 is NTSC only - the Australian PS3 plays PAL and NTSC without any problems, and outputs either natively - but most US equipment is still NTSC only.

You can check this by open the VOB files in mediainfo and looking at the resolution and/or framerate. 25 fps or 720 x 576 means PAL.

What, if any, error codes or messages are you getting from the PS3 ?
