Canon HF200 Useless So Far

Since I bought this non-consumer mess Dec 2009, I have not been able to get many files onto the computer. And then, what file do you use to even view your videos?

What I have been able to download to the computer I can't open/view, let alone burn DVD. I need a low cost S/W that can convert .mts files into something burnable/viewable.

I know this is my lack of knowledge and I am way over my head with this camcorder. Any help would be appreciated.

Try avidemux. If you want fancier editing, try Adobe Premiere Elements. You can check out the trial version to see if it suits you.


Also, it's pretty stupid to choose your username based on your problem. It shows that you probably won't contribute here beyond (possibly) getting an answer to your question.
I know people that have that camera, and they've made some great videos. It sounds like user error at this point that can only be fixed by research and practice..

You can use splash or MPCHC to view the clips

If you are burning a standard DVD (playable in a regular DVD player) , it will be SD, you will lose HD. You could use avstodvd , or dvd flick , for example

If you have a blu-ray player, or PS3, you can use HD content on DVD media. You could use multiavchd for this

wow...tempting. I got a TV from techbargains years ago that was fine. I suppose a re-furbed vidcam might be worth taking a bit of a risk although there are so many things to check out on a camera ................

I have good luck with refurb so far.I bought a Canon HV-20 from onecall.com over a year ago.so far no issues at all.just be sure to buy extended warranty

I've had good luck also. I'm also thinking about spending a bit more ($750) and getting the 3 chip TM 700 panasonic.

Exactly what kind of PC are you using? AVCHD is very processor intensive and will need all h/w muscle it can get just to play smoothly, let alone edit. A core2duo is a basic start for a processor, all the way to i7. You need at the very least dedicated graphics, not the so-called on-board. And the PC you intend to do any AVCHD-related activity in should be lean (as in bloat-ware free, no fezbuk blah-blah), with separate system and capture drives which should ALWAYS be defragged. Canon and their ilk like to make an unsuspecting public think that AVCHD is a walk in the park, so you go and buy things HD this and HD that and now you find it's hardly like what they said. Tough. Peruse this forum.

Go to the store and get a newer computer to go along with your new camera.
Windows 7 with the latest Windows Media player handles .MTS just fine.

Hell, my Old I-3 laptop will even play 24mbps .mts files..
