Hello guys,
Few days ago I bought my first HD Camcorder (Sony HDR-CX150, Costco, $499) and have some questions…
1. What do you think about Sony HDR-CX150 overall? For example, compare to Canon HF-R11 (Costco, $579)?
I am not a pro. Just wanna get better movie quality with HD, over Panasonic MiniDV that I have now. Planning to shoot family, vacation movies, etc.
I believe that Sony HDR-CX150 captures in AVCHD format, which is completely new to me.
2. Can you give me any input on this format? Is it good or bad? Would you use it? Is it commonly used?
I don’t think I am planning to burn Blue-ray Discs for now, but instead I want to convert from AVCHD and burn movies on DVD or most likely DVD+R DL
3. What software would you recommend for the conversion?
Also, I ve heard that I must have powerful PC in order to play with AVCHD.
4. Can you give me any hint how powerful it should be?
Thank you in advance,
taboo

You should be able to use multiavchd to convert avchd to dvd.
You should have at least a dual core pc or better for hd video. Also having a video card with h264 decoding will help a lot. That will ease the load of the processor.
I don't have any advice for a camcorder since I am not using hd for personal video cameras yet.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Yes, multiavchd has worked well for me.

You still need a blu-ray player to playback AVCHD discs, even on DVD5/9 media
If you are making a disc that can play in a regular DVD player, this is DVD-Video and standard definition only.
