I mistakenly bought a Canon HF100 thinking that I can handle it. I need very simple instruction (for dummy) on how to put AVCHD home movie onto a dvd or external hard drive to watch on a blu ray dvd player.
I have a Seagate external hard drive and a PC purchased in 12/2008 with Win SP and a regular dvd burner. I do not have any editing softwares other than what came with the camcorder.
I read a lot of posting on this site - they sound very good but I do not believe that I will be successful following those guidances because I am not a computer geek. I am also afraid of investing more monies into the softwares that I cannot handle. Does anyone have simple guidance and instructions to offer?
Thanks in advance for your guidances and instructions.

Use multiavchd to author to burn on dvd, also not all blu-ray players will play avchd dvd,get your blu-ray model number and google it to see if it will play avchd dvd.You will need to install ffdshow, avisynth, haali media splitter and java. You can also store the files on a external hdd and watch thru a western digital media player.
I use tssniper and tsmuxergui for editing for editing ts and m2ts files.I think, therefore i am a hamster. -
JohnsO, thanks for your reply!
Can I just plug the external hdd to the tuner or dvd player to watch the files store the external hdd? I do not have western digital media player.
Thanks. -
Not likely. Any players that can do this through an external hard drive will likely be limited to the fat32 format which means you can't have file sizes larger than 4gb. I think there is a work around on the multiavchd where you can split into 1gb chunks (at least for burning to dual layer dvd).
You can do it with a fat32 but you'll have to sacrifice quality with lower bitrate to get at 4gb.
With a wd media tv player or a similar unit that can read from a harddrive have the ability to read ntfs drives with no file size restrictions.
If you have a xbox 360 you can purchase macdrive 7 and format the drive to hfs and you will be able to use any file size on it (similar to ntfs). Though on the 360 you'll be slightly limited by formats you can play.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?
