  1. All this talk about capturing video to your PC's got me thinking, what is it that you have that is precious enough to you to go through all the trouble of capturing it to your PC? Rare movies/TV shows, home videos, vintage porn? Just curious, be specific in your answers (Rare movie - copy of Ghostbusters that my parents recorded off TV in the 80's w/commercials, that started my love for Ghostbusters)
    Cheers.

For my personal videos it is mostly performances - plays my wife directed or choreographed, stuff I did special effects for, more recently my daughter's dancing concerts. For third parties it is holiday videos, wedding videos etc.

Primarily business-related content (I actually work at a video publishing house), though I have also edited family videos on the PC at home. Most of the time, the format is DV-AVI.

For me ... I use Windows Media Center 2005 or Windows 7 Ultimate / Media Center ........ what do I record ??

I am able to get all the local stations in my area ... in over the air HD broadcasts. The hard drive I record to ... a Maxtor 500 GB USB 2.0 external harddrive.

Thursday nights are especially busy ....

Supernatural on CH 59 - CW ... in HD
Fringe on CH 26 - Fox ... in HD
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation on CH 47 - CBS ... in HD

My Directv box only has 2 tuners ... so to keep things more sane ... I record ... Fringe on my PC.

Plus my wife likes to record and watch later ... FOX News and Bill O'Reilly ... Gerado ... and all those other News Reporters on Fox News.

So to keep the load down ... some shows are recorded and watched on the PC in the garage ... Pioneer Receiver ... AR Speakers ... the whole shebang is hooked up to my system in the garage.

My HD tuner is a ATI HDTV 650 PCI ... works just fine.

Something else I do with the same hard drive ... all my games are installed on this same hard drive ... and play just fine ...

    Aliens Vs Predator 2009
    BioShock 2
    Crysis
    Crysis WarHead
    Left 4 Dead 2
    Fear 2 Project Origin
    Legendary
    Modern Warfare 2
The Chronicles of Riddick - Assault on Dark Athena

BioShock 2 ... is a very trippy game. Great graphics.

If I keep some of my HD Recordings too long [ a hour show eats up 6 Gigs of space ] ... I just move them to another drive ... I have seven 500 GB USB 2.0 hard drives ... to mess with.

Or convert to Divx or to DVD.

  9. Well, I am going to convert VHS tapes in my house for playback in my PC and even try capturing PC game footages with a hardware solution...

I've captured several TV series and many of our old family videos (still working on those) and even some for friends who are technically clueless. I've taught others how to do it themselves.
