I'm looking for a cable or an device that will allow me to capture an video along with sound straight from my tv to my laptop. A few months ago I was at this tourney and a guy was using his laptop and some sort of cable (or it could had been an device) which was running from the tv that feed the footage straight to his laptop. What I'm trying to do is record some of my matches in SF and feed it directly to my laptop where I can take the footage and edit it before I upload them to youtube. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You'll need more than just a cable. If the TV actually has a video/audio output, you can probably use a external USB capture device.
A few from a NewEgg search: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010380047+1148410234&QksA...pe=&srchInDesc=
You can find some devices without the TV tuner if you just want the capture part.

The thing that looked like a cable was probably a USB capture card - they're achingly small these days, not much more than a 3-RCA to USB cord with the USB end being a bit wider and distended (holding the actual circuitry). Can pick up a basic one for very little from places like PC World, but don't expect massive quality or features. For what you're planning though, it may well do the trick.
That or he had:
a/ a laptop with built in capture / tuner (rare but do exist)
b/ a (depending on age) Cardbus or ExpressCard tuner & vidcapper. They fit almost flush into the machine, so they end up looking almost as if they're a part of it, apart from the piece which sticks out with the ports on.-= She sez there's ants in the carpet, dirty little monsters! =-
Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more! -
I bought the Pinnacle Video Capture from bestbuy, my laptop reconizes it but for some reason its not reconizing the video or audio from my tv(hmmmm) not sure if I had something hooked up wrong or not.

Are you sure you have video and audio OUTPUTS on the TV? This is pretty rare for video. Most likely you will need to use the alternate outputs at the source, or a splitter or pass-thru.
