  1. First things first, I've already got this DVD ripped to my HDD. While I don't remember which program I used, it's been here for a while, I'm pretty sure I used DVD Decrypter by itself (since it works with 99% of the DVDs I copy). So, when I try to open the ISO image in DVD Shrink it just straight up tells me that it's an "invalid DVD Navigation structure." I have no idea what that really means since I've never had that error come up before. I went and checked the DVD to make sure it didn't just have some error when it ripped and it plays just fine on my computer (the image). Also worth noting that every DVD in the series does this. I have also tried to open this as files, had to re-rip it to them, and it seems to open it fine for a sec, but then comes up with the same error. I'm thinking one of the files has a purposeful error in it.

Anyway, I'm stumped so I'm wondering what to do now. I'll likely just burn it to a DL DVD, but once I run out I'd rather not have to get more should this crop up again.

Wow. You joined over 6 years ago and you're asking about this. I guess you don't pay a lot of attention to the forums here when you don't have questions as we've talked about this all the time.

Some studios use copy protection called ARCCOS that deliberately uses bad sectors to thwart programs like DVD Decrypter. Try using something like DVDFab or AnyDVD. Note that if you use the free DVDFab that it trails the commercial release by about 6 months, so it may not be able to rip the latest and greatest version of ARCCOS protected discs. The commercial DVDFab gets regular updates.

By the way, you could have mentioned the DVD title. It's not like doing so will get you thrown out of the forums. Why did you think that was unimportant? And you could also tell what region the DVDs are from that you are ripping ARCCOS is mostly used on region 1 DVDs, but it can be used elsewhere.

  3. Perhaps you should try not to act like the know-it-all. I'm glad you assume I'm stupid, but the truth is far from it. I've probably done a boat load more conversions than many people on here, but I don't go shoving it in their face. That said, I joined this forum for video conversions, like DivX to DVD, MKV to AVI, etc... not really for ripping DVDs. I just picked here to ask since I was already in the forums.

I've searched through the usual forums and haven't come up with anything on the matter, here and forums.myce.com mainly. I am, however, glad that you mentioned Arccos. I have actually not heard of that before, which is rather odd since apparently I've ripped a couple of movies protected with Arccos perfectly fine already. Relatively simple fix even with DVD Decrypter. I'll likely have to use it for the newer seasons of this series as well.

^^^DVD DECRYPTER hasn't been updated for years! What Jman98 told you is correct about having copy protection on dvd discs. If you think using only DVD DECRYPTER will be ok then go ahead and use it. My bet is that the only reason why it's worked for you so far is because those dvd discs probably didn't have any copy protection on them. You will have to use ANYDVD or DVDFAB HD DECRYPTER if any dvd disc has copy protection encryptions. Nuff said!

Maybe I'm just misunderstanding but Alexstarfire indicated that he has had the dvd on his hard disk for quite a while. So, evidently it has been ripped. My suggestion would be to run the ripped dvd thru FixVTS and see if that corrects the problem.

Whenever I have a problem with a DVD Decrypter rip not being accepted by Shrink, my first thought is to run it thru FixVTS.
That seems to always work for me.

I have found that DVDShrink would sometimes have problems with certain ISO files on my HD. What as worked for me is to mount the image on virtualclonedrive and then use DVDShrink and use in usual manner to 'shrink'. Should work ok. Best of luck.

As far as I know DVDShrink won't handle ISO files but it will handle VIDEO_TS format

And just because it is already ripped to the HDD, does not mean it was ripped correctly
