When DVD Shrink fails to shrink a large video in VOB DVD file format to fit on a single layer DVD-R is there some way that Shrink settings can be changed to allow greater compression or have two goes to progessively shrink it down.

I have noticed some VOB files can be shrunk easily while others cannot be shrunk very much at all.

DVD Rebuilder with QuEnc (or HC Encoder, I forget which one comes default). Takes about 10 hours on a 3Ghz, but still looks a lot better.

Luckily, I don't have to do this much.

DVD+R DL may be a better choice yet.

You can change compression on a per title basis etc quite easily in the normal window ? Select the proper "compression" tab on the right, click on the title and select the compression away from auto to manual and drag the slider to the right level. I do this with my home videos to burn to DVD.

You can also run the results from Shrink through Shrink a second time time. Of course, you are just asking for low quality doing it this way.

I'd agree with LordSmurf - DVD Rebuilder with HCEnc. I can do a 2 hour movie in around 8 hours (2-pass VBR) with a 3Ghz HT P4 and 1 GB ram.

    Gunslinger,

On those occasions where DVD Shrink with Auto settings cannot shrink the movie enough to fit on 1 DVD-R it does not result in a larger error free set of VOBfiles but comes up with "Cannot continue message" and the last VOB file has some of the orignal video missing and the VOB files are still bigger than will fit on a DVD-R.

I will have a look at Halsbos suggestion.

    Thanks all
