    Just a quick question.

For DivX conversions to VCD via TMPG Plus ver 253 I have beenusing Vdub to first extract / convert the audio to wav, and then frameserving into TMPG. In my thinking applyig vilters in Vdub seemed to speed up the whole process, while letting you edit the clip prior to encoding (obviously this is done before extracting the audio, so they stay matched).

On some DivX encodes, I am getting small horizontal black lines. I am guessing this is simply due to the "inflation" of the mpeg 4 to an mpeg 1 stream. Is this simply something to "live with" or are there any other solutions out there ? The encodes have not been bad at all, but I'm too much of a perfectionist...

Would it be best to load the avi directly to TMPG (as is shown in Baldrick's guide) ? I really didn't think it would matter, or more importantly, the frameserving wouldn't have any negative effect...I just thought this way gave you a great amount of flexibility and adjustments prior to encoding the final product...

    Thanks for any ideas.

  3. hey SPIDEY...

in regards to a divx movie, i always frameserve from vdub. doing all my resizing and cropping and noise reduction before i imoprt it to tmpgenc. it certainly does speed up the process while keeping best possible results. the noise reduction in tmpgenc takes too much extra time and also, IMO, makes the video look faker. after i frameserve, i load my (s)(x)vcd template and change my source range, simple color correction, and volume settings... thats it.

i believe i can produce my highest quality video re-productions this way, as well as it only taking close to a 1:2 ratio in time. hope this gives you some insight.

    GOOD LUCK

Thanks Bud. I agree with everything that you said. That's why I had always thought to frameserve the vid and use the wav for the audio.

Good to know that it is the best way. The vid I got the black lines in, does have them, or the texture at least, in the source avi, I was just hoping Serving it wasn't amplifying them.

For your Source Aspect Ratio are you using VGA 1:1 ?

Again, much thanks for your insight. Have a great weekend

  5. i use 1:1 vga always ON WIDESCREEN. i would crop the vid at something like 352 x 194 and serve it with the 1:1 ratio. if it wasnt widescreen and a full screen vid, i would use the appropriate 4:3 setting (NTSC or PAL).

    ps. glad to help.
