  1. Don't rip my head off, but unless you're dirt poor Apex isn't worth the money you save.

My Apex 660 not only had the subtitle problems, and "bonus" text problems on DVDs, but also always showed heavy blockiness and tended to lose sync of the audio at least a few times during every VCD. On REALLY cheap CD-Rs the audio loosing sync made it unwatchable.

Went out and got a Pioneer with "Viterbi Error Correction" and digital noise reduction (Elite DV-C36). Not once have I had the audio go out of sync (even on those cheap CD-Rs the Apex had serious trouble with). And it's so nice not having to hit my subtitle button 3 times for each DVD.....what a lame bug for Apex to let slip past. Even my Hanes underware are inspected before they leave the plant!

Now my Apex 660 has gone from being my crappy home DVD player to my crappy office DVD player

    Long live Pioneer!

    APEX 660's can be hacked.

    However, some can't

    660-8AM
    660-8MM

I know those two firmware revisions are capable of self upgrade. Usually players with these firmware revisions r found in Sams and Wal-Mart.

I have firmware set for Region 2 but I see no need to use it as I have no Region 2 DVD"s.

I also have some set to Region 0 but new tech may cause me not to use this.

  3. I got the APEX 1500, and I love it =). It plays everything and even has a better dvd drive since all my dvds are all scratched up

  4. I too have the APEX AD 660 and have also ran into the problem. Its easy to get rid of if when you are on the menu that after you set the DVD itself not to use the subtitle features then hit the "SUB-T" key and turn them off and when you play it,the subtitles are gone. I found this out after struggling with it for about ten minutes. But overall I think that this little bit of weirdness can be overlooked when you take into account the fact the it is one of if not the best player out there. But then again thats just my opinion.
